This will be 7th biannual trip by Troop/Crew 56 to Philmont Scout Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico. Many regard a backpacking treks through Philmont’s 137,500 acres of rugged wilderness as the pinnacle event of a youth’s career in scouting.

Given the physical and psychological demands of the trek, we require those planning to go to Philmont to attend two qualifying trips during the 2013-2014 year, as well as two required trips. Trips that are Philmont required are: May Shakedown and March WFA; trips that are Philmont “qualifiers” are: Sept. backpacking, Jan. snowshoe, April backpack.
