Philmont Trip 2014

Trip Dates: leave Boston July 10, return to Boston July 24

Trip Leader: Britt Rideout

Assistant Trip Leaders: Robin Bonner and others to be determined

Trip Cost: to be determined; estimated $1,500, includes cost of Philmont program, airfare, ground transportation to/from Denver airport, 2 days ground travel, accommodations, & meals in Colorado to acclimate, participant t-shirts, and some pre-trip costs

Financial Aid: some financial aid available; more details in another posting

Participation Requirements:

  1. Youth must by 14 years old or 13 years old and entering 9th grade on July 12, 2014
  2. Youth and parent(s) must sign a contract agreeing to participation requirements, payment schedule, & behavior expectations
  3. Participant must complete at least two of three “qualifier” trips in the 2013-14 Scout year: September backpacking trip, January snowshoe trip, and April backpacking trip
  4. Participant must attend shakedown backpacking trip Memorial Day weekend
  5. Participant must attend the troop/crew’s November trip, which includes 7 hours of conservation work (OR make arrangements to complete 7 hours of conservation work on another project)
  6. Participant must complete weekend-long Wilderness First Aid course in March
  7. Participant must become certified in CPR
  8. Participant must complete Personal Fitness merit badge (will be offered “in house” during the Scout year)
  9. Participant must submit fully completed BSA medical form, including physician’s review and approval of Part D
